I've read countless books on the topic of insomnia, most of them written by doctors or hypnotherapists who have never experienced the dreadful disorder themselves. I've been to CBT's who also could tell me what to do, but could not truly sympathize or understand my situation. I wish I would have saved my money and found Sasha's books earlier in my search for a treatment for insomnia. I've had insomnia on and off for about 10 years and Sasha's books are the only books that truly spoke to me in a way that no therapist, doctor, or hypnotherapist could. She has experienced the disorder herself for years on end and has actually "cured" herself from it---now this is a person I want to listen to! But when I started reading the book, I fully understood what I was doing wrong---poor habits, thought patterns, scheduling my life around my "issue"---all which were making the problem worse. Sasha's program works, but you have to actually DO what she says, not just read about it. :) The Sleep Companion is another brilliant book, going deeper into the psychology of insomnia and giving the reading a huge dose of honesty. Just like any program, starting is the hardest part, but if you follow her advice and steps, it simply works. I've improved my sleep so much since reading her books, and I will continue to work on the habits that reinforce poor sleep. I know perfect sleep is on its way---thank you Sasha for your work. It took me a LONG time to actually start this program, which is where I think a lot of people fail. I was taking sleep meds and doing countless other things to fall asleep at night, and every single one failed me. I was experiencing some very, very dark times. I didn't know how I was going to quit the medication I was on and resume a normal life without them. I tried everything: doctors, therapists, meds, pot, hypnosis, accupunture...you name it, I was trying it. Well, here I am, two months later, sleeping better than I have in 4 years. I owe my life to Sasha's books. However, Sasha can't make you actually take action and follow the steps, you must have the strength to do it on your own. The reprogramming part may not seem important, but trust me, it's everything! And it's the hardest part to change, especially when you're feeling SO tired and awful. But you must persist! I could go on and on about how great I feel these books are. I am finally cured and I know I can sleep now. It's the best feeling in the world.

I read her first book, and thought wow! Someone understands what I'm going through. I followed the steps outlined in the first book for months, and saw no improvement. I bought this book thinking it would close the gap. The author obviously has a passion for the subject. To me she seems to assume away a lot of the complexities of insomnia. It's one thing to tell a person to simply think pleasant thoughts all of the time. It's another thing to do it when night after night is a struggle, and days are filled with clouded thinking, no energy and everything else that comes with sleep deprivation. Two things really struck me as odd about the author. 1). tells you to quit searching for information on the internet about products and advice on insomnia, while she often recommends going to websites to download a free (bait) sample of this , or that mp3 track. and 2). The cost of a $500 email consultation. If I had benefited at all from the steps in either of the books, I might have bought. I carried this book with me and lived by it as best I could for close to 10 months. I saw no change in my sleep. I don't know where my sleep problem will end, but this book was of no help.
You can read all the other sleep books on the market and gain some useful knowledge and skills that might improve your sleep. But let me save you some time. Just buy this book and Sasha's first - The Effortless Sleep Method. The Effortless Sleep Method may be all you need. You learn the basics about sleep (like all other sleep books, it covers sleep architecture and sleep hygiene) but then through her own struggles with sleep and her eventual resolution of her sleep problems, you will learn practical, eminently sensible advice on how to stop undermining your own sleep. She teaches you how to take back control of your life and not let insomnia rule you. This book (the companion) is like a FAQ or appendix to book 1. It reinforces the 1st book by answering all the most common questions Sasha received after publishing the method. Practical, sound advice from someone who has been there and understands the mindset of the poor sleeper.
For me, reading Sasha's "Companion" (repeatedly!!) - and only after reading her "Effortless" (repeatedly!!) - was key to gaining, retaining and sustaining my sleep after many years of sleeplessness and the associated pain of being a zombie every day. Reading, absorbing and honestly living her learnings was key for me. There were signs of a quick cure, but it's taken me many more months and deeper reads of the "Companion" to fully get my act together - thx to , the book still looks new ) For those of us with long term sleep issues, the cure goes well beyond just good sleep hygiene. You def need a STRONG belief system ... and for most of us, that's not such an easy nut to crack. But stay curious and with lots of practice (and positive attitude), it's do-able and it works. Period. For the last time, thanks again Sasha!
